 2005: Year of the Mediterranean

Barcelona + 10

At the Euromed meeting of Foreign Ministers in The Hague pdf file on 29/30 November, 2004 ministers gave their support to renewed efforts aimed at raising the profile of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership throughout the EU and partner countries. In this context, and in order to foster and facilitate visibility actions, it was decided to name 2005 - the tenth anniversary of the Barcelona process - the ‘Year of the Mediterranean’. The Euromed logo will also be made available to organisers of information events and activities in order to ensure a consistent and coherent branding.

The Year of the Mediterranean will culminate with a high- level political meeting and celebratory event of the tenth anniversary in Barcelona in November. The European Commission is aware that many networks, organisations and friends of the Mediterranean are planning events throughout the year to mark this watershed occasion. In order to harness these activities and events under a common, visible and accessible heading a special interactive calendar of events is being created. The calendar will offer regularly updated lists of ‘what’s on’ throughout the Euromed region with associated information and contact details.

The specially designed web page will allow event organisers the possibility of submitting their events to the calendar and of using the Euro-Med logo. By following the simple user-guide and accepting the letter of conformity their event will be considered to be included in the calendar and authorisation will be granted for the use of the logo (for more details on the use of the logo see: “Euromed logo”).
